Veg Momos Recipe! How To Make Momos at Home

This lockdown craving for momos? They’re simple to make at home! They’re easy to make and quite tasty. You can also pre-prepare the dough by making it in the morning and then stuffing it later. The dough should be chilled for 3-4 hours before use.

For the Momo chutney, I’ve used a chili garlic sauce but you can make it with some tomatoes, garlic, onions, paprika, salt and pepper.

Streetstyle veg momos are very simple to make at home. A wide range of combinations can also be tested. I enjoy corn, cheese, and paneer momos, personally.

Here's how to make veg momos at home :

For the momo stuffing:

  1. 2 tbsp oil
  2. 7-8 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
  3. 1 tbsp ginger (finely chopped)
  4. 1 onion (finely chopped)
  5. 1 capsicum (finely chopped)
  6. 2 cups cabbage (finely chopped/shredded)
  7. 1 cup carrot (shredded)
  8. 1 cup spring onion greens (finely chopped)
  9. 2 tbsp dark soya sauce

For the momos dough :

  •  Mix the maida, salt, and oil with your hands first to make a crumbly mix.

  • Cover the dough with a damp towel and set it aside for an hour.

For the Momo stuffing :

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add garlic, ginger, onions, and sauté until golden brown with a pinch of salt.
  • Add the capsicum, cabbage, carrots, spring onion greens, and sauté on high flame for 2-3 mins.
  • Add the soya sauce, chili sauce, vinegar. Mix and cook. Cool mix at room temp before stuffing.

  • Remove the towel after an hour and knead the dough for 2-3 minutes. Make tiny balls of similar size.
  • Roll each ball into a thin circle with thin edges. Place around a tbsp of the mix in the center of each circle and then pinch edges to form a Momo as shown.
  • Make a complete of 6-7 momos in this method. Meanwhile, grease a steamer. Place momos on it after heating it for 5 minutes. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the momos are transparent and cooked. If a toothpick inserted into one of the momos comes out clean, the momos are done.
  • Serve hot with some Momo chutney/any sauce of your choice.
